In 24-hours I’ve watched the Kony2012 movement turn from sharing, optimism and excitement to skepticism and paranoia. Why do we do this as a society? Why must we beat everything positive until it’s dead and lost all value?
I’ve read a few articles that question the Kony2012 campaign and the non-profit behind it, Invisible Children. I’ve tried to write my thoughts on this out but I keep coming back to defending them based on what I’ve researched myself. Rather than do that, I’ll link to those articles at the bottom.
But…
The reason I’m so disturbed is more about why we, as a society, seem to immediately question a movement that is looking to save lives and send help to otherwise helpless communities while hearing Tim Cook announced a new iPad that we’ll buy without question (and by the way, the iPad still sucks – I did my research).
So, my rhetorical question is – if it looks like something good, why do we immediately have a need to question the intention behind it?
